Homeschool Diploma – Do You Need One?



We all know what a a high school diploma is, it is something that was handed to you, placed in a box and stored for the rest of your life never to be looked at again. But, what about what it represents?

What is a homeschool diploma and what does it represent? It is a piece of paper that marks your child’s scholastic achievement.

So, if this diploma is stuffed in the attic somewhere, never to be found again, why is it so important… or is it?

By now, you are probably a bit confused…what am I saying here…is a homeschool diploma important or not?

Do you remember when your went to apply for your first big job? Were you asked to present your certificate of graduation?

The answer is probably no, but they may have asked you for your transcripts, which is a record of your education. There is a big difference between your transcripts and a high school diploma.

You will need to keep a historical record of your child’s education and achievements in transcript format.

Now some parents still choose to provide a homeschool diploma for their children, just because it provides them with a symbol of their victory and therefore praised for their hard work.

There are many programs that will allow homeschooled students to receive a state-accredited certificate which is equivalent to a homeschool diploma.

Many of these students have obtained their GED, which is a test taken at the end of their high school term, and will be provided a graduation certificate equal to that of a high school diploma.

You will be wise in learning about your state’s rules regarding education and job applications and what high school records are required.
